2018 – A year of personal achievements

Posted on 24th December 2018

I am writing this blog on the same day I make the finishing touches to the plan for our whole team end of year review; wow there is a lot to review. As with any reflection on a year there have been some incredible highs, and also sadly some lows too. On a personal note, in February I lost my Dad, and for a lot of this year I have been battling with a health condition that has caused a few challenges. Hopefully in January some intense treatment will solve it (fingers crossed all).

However, those of you who know me well know it takes a lot to keep me down. With the amazing support of family, friends and the Gateway team I am ending the year on a definite high – as is the business. One of the recent highlights was when Maria was renewing some of our business professional insurance and they needed her to explain why our turnover had increased so significantly as it was unusual. Apparently they wanted a more detailed answer than “because we’re awesome!”

We have our lovely new offices and our own training suite that is being opened by the Mayor. We can’t wait to welcome people to our new range of training programmes from January. Our offices are well and truly “Gateway’d”, and as one of our clients on the same estate as us said “I love being greeted by 6ft yellow characters as I drive in to work”. If you don’t know what I mean come and visit and have a look.

As a team we started the year with a set of physical challenges to complete. We managed to smash of all of them. This seemed to light a spark in us and there have been some incredible achievements in health for some of the team. One of which is the newly crowned Mr Sleek, aka Ashley. Ashley has lost an incredible 5 stone – what a difference as you can see in these photos.

Maria has also been on an inspiring journey and now thinks nothing of a “quick” 5k run or doing 500 squats and lunges! We also think she has the most graceful running style – like a ballerina in trainers!

Lindsay and I have fallen in love with CrossFit (yes, you read that right). We can often be found at Shirefit in Corby or Wellingborough doing a workout before work or even at lunchtime. I have finally found an exercise that I love and environment that makes me feel anything is possible – even for me. Thanks Jack and team!

There is so much more I could write about. Let me finish by simply saying that it is incredible what we can all achieve with the right motivation and support behind us. Give some thought to what you would like to achieve in 2019 and get started now – why wait?

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a peaceful, happy New Year.
